Oak Bay New Music Festival 2019

In collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre in BC and the Victoria Composers Collective we present our 5th annual Oak Bay New Music Festival.

This weekend’s activities kick off with a Social drop-in at Good Earth Coffee. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet and chat with the weekend’s performers, composers and organizers. Good Earth Coffee is located at 1971 Oak Bay Avenue (Oak Bay Ave / Foul Bay).

Concert #1: Underperformed Works by Renowned Composers

Saturday, July 13th, 7:00 pm
Members and friends of the Victoria Composers Collective (VCC) present a program that will include Infinity for Morton by Canadian composer Linda Catlin Smith (Toronto), as well as works from composers from around the world such as Galina Ustvolskaya (Russia), and Elizabeth Lutyens (UK).
The concert will also feature world premieres by Victoria composer Sylvia Rickard, and an unperformed work by Décio Arapiraca (Brazil), grandfather to VCC member Maria Martins. Concert #1 Tickets: $20

Concert #2: 5th Anniversary Sound Installation + ‘Miniatures’ concert

Sunday, July 14th, 2:30 pm
To celebrate five years of Oak Bay New Music Festivals, the Victoria Composers Collective will present a sound installation consisting of music from previous concerts performed by local musicians. Following the sound installation, accordion player Erica Roozendaal, who will be visiting Canada from the Netherlands, will perform several ‘miniature pieces’ (short works) composed by Canadian composers.
During a Q&A session, audience members can ask Roozendaal about her experience preparing these works, as well as her experiences as an accordionist living and working in the Netherlands. Concert #2 is by donation

Concert #3: Erica Roozendaal Accordion Recital

Sunday, July 14th, 7:00 pm
Erica Roozendaal will feature music by Aho, Maria Eduarda Martins, Dutch folk melodies, and some of her own compositions. This concert will also including visual art works created by Roozendaal.

Location

All events (except for the New Music Coffee Social) take place at the Chapel of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 1701 Elgin Rd, Oak Bay.
