Oak Bay New Music Festival 2016

Oak Bay Music, the Victoria Composers Collective and Open Space collaborate to bring an all day music festival including three concerts and an artist talk.  The first two “I Composers” concerts, at 1pm and 5pm feature works from the Victoria Composers Collective. The final concert “Do: Come so we may see” at 7:30pm features Cathy Fern Lewis and Christopher Reiche. The Artist Talk at 3pm (between the first two concerts) will be presented by guest musician Cléo Palacio-Quintin from Montreal.

Please note: A daypass covers all four events (3 concerts and artist talk) and is only $20 General and $10 Student.

Tickets also available through Ivy’s Books, and at the door on the day of the concert.
Availability is limited so please buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Program

1 pm: Concert #1, I ♥ Composers
New and recent works by Julio Lopezhiler, Nathan Friedman, Maria Eduarda Mendes Martins, Lynne Penhale and Hollas Longton.

3 pm: Artist Talk with Cléo Palacio-Quintin, artist in residence at Open Space.
Cléo Palacio-Quintin will give a talk and presentation. Her work focusses on the hyper-flute, an instrument that combines the traditional flute with electronics and extends the range of the instrument into the digital realm.

5 pm: Concert #2, I ♥ Composers
New and recent works by Natalie Dzbik, Alex Jang, Nolan Krell, Kimberley Manerikar and Justin Boechler.

7:30 pm: Concert #3: “Do: Come so we may see”
Well-known Victoria new music musicians Chris Reiche and Cathy Fern Lewis feature their unique program “Do: Come so we may see”, exploring the Fragments of Greek poet Sappho on found instruments, found pitches, and found objects.
